Erasure - A Little Respect Lyrics
I try to discover
A little something to make me sweeter
Oh baby refrain from breaking my heart
Im so in love with you
Ill be forever blue
That you give me no reason
Why youre making me work so hard
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me
And if I should falter
Would you open your arms out to me
We can make love not war
And live at peace in our hearts
Im so in love with you
Ill be forever blue
What religion or reason
Could drive a man to forsake his lover
Dont you tell me no
Dont you tell me no
Dont you tell me no
Dont you tell me no
Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me
Im so in love with you
Ill be forever blue
That you give me no reason
You know youre making me work so hard
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me
Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me
Erasure - A Little Respect Review and Song Info
Written by Erasure members Vince Clarke and Andy Bell, the heavily-synthesized instrumentation is accentuated by acoustic guitar and Bell’s use of falsetto in the chorus. The lyrics are an empowering plea to a lover to show compassion and respect.
“A Little Respect” is arguably Erasure’s most covered song, having been remade by artists such as Almighty Allstars and ABBA-tribute group Björn Again. Alternative rock group Wheatus had the most success with a cover version of “A Little Respect” - in 2001 their version out-did Erasure’s on the UK singles chart by peaking at number three.
