It’s a tradition older than time, a milestone (or maybe that should be a millstone) that they all must pass. It comes to them all in the end.

What does, you’re probably thinking. The answer is the serious single for boy bands. The one for grown ups, for the parents as much as the kids.

Tired of intricate dance routines and screaming preteens, and wishing that they’d been clever like Westlife and employed the use of stools more often, A1 have found that songs don’t just appear by post from Scandinavia (actually in boy band land, they do, but let’s leave that alone…), that people with instruments write them and that they want to be those people!

Caught In The Middle isn’t actually that bad. While not measuring up to the classic serious boy band tune, Take That’s Back For Good, it can hold it’s head up in public without too many people laughing at it. It’s no great departure in sound, owing a lot to the whole Backstreet/N’Sync sound, but then what did we really expect?

A fan pleaser while also managing to sound a bit more mature, Caught In The Middle could end up being many things to A1… their move upmarket, their new beginning, or like many boy bands that have taken control of their sound, the first ring of the death knell.
